Sonogram and Prayers

Yesterday I had a sonogram and saw my active 11 week old baby. The baby was jumping and even waving at me. It was a total delight.

The tech also saw a rather large sub chorionic hematoma. From what I read yesterday, this is fairly common and not something to get really worried about. However, when the doctor called, (not my usual doctor who is on vacation but his substitution,) he did nothing but upset me. He told me this puts me in a very high risk for miscarriage because of my age, history, the size of the hematoma and because I’m taking progesterone supplements. He warned me against excessive bleeding and even suggested that if I begin to bleed heavily, I would have to go in for a D&C. (Only two hours earlier, I saw a bouncing baby – how could one suggest a D&C to me? I’m not bleeding.)

So, I’m asking for prayers. If it be the Lord’s Will, would He honor me and my baby by healing the hematoma? I am also asking for prayers for strength. I think this is a trial to be endured.

It’s no coincidence that my turn for prayer arrived at Cottage of Loreto. As Alice said, in November (when Alice began the novena service), Our Lady knew that I would need prayer now. Thank you for praying for me and my family. The link to the novena to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is here:

I think in this age of litigation, some doctors feel that they have to say certain things to cover themselves against a potential law suit should something go wrong. Alas, having poor people skills is not something that one is likely to be sued for!

Nonetheless, take this opportuity to pamper yourself a little. Take it easy and this too shall pass! I am adding you to my prayer list.

Don't listen to him. My sister had a hematoma, she bled for weeks and my little niece will be 3 in October. I'm praying and praying.

Helen, I am and will be praying for you. I suffered a pretty massive hematoma during this pregnancy after miscarrying a twin. I bled, sometimes heavily, unitl 16 weeks or so. When I arrived for my 20 week scan, the tech was very suprised to see me still pregnant! I am just about 8 weeks from delivery now! ;) Please be assured of my prayers and those of my family.

Personally I think that information can be given to help caution the mother to take precautions (extra rest etc.) but it should be given with a great dose of hope & optimism because if it is not, it can put the mother under more stress that cannot be an added physical benefit to the situation. Doctors should be trained in these necessary personal skills!!

You have such a strong, unshakeable and peaceful faith Helen, I feel you have handled this situation with great grace.

May Our Lady's mantle continue to cover you and baby.

You and your little one are in my prayers. I have a friend who was diagnosed with a hematoma in her first trimester and her OB was pessimistic about her chances but it spontaneously healed & she went on to have a perfectly healthy baby :-)

God bless!

I will be praying for you! I also got a phone call from my doctor after I conceived my first son. My blood results had come back and I too had low progesterone. Without a hint of emotion he told me that although there was a chance my child would be okay I would most likely miscarry. Well, that little one is now a happy three year old. :)

Helen, when the Novena notification first came across I simply thought it was the neatest thing that you were linked up with Our Lady of Mount Carmel but as you said there are no coincidences!

Helen, I somehow missed this post here and only saw Alice's. I am praying for you and the babe since you shared the news, and will do so each time we pray now. I thank God for you and the loving patience you had for me at a time when you must have been full of thoughts about the new baby.
